Description
For my Online Course Critique, I participated in a hybrid college composition course. In order to provide a thorough critique of the course, I participated in several asynchronous online activities and attended one face-to-face session. Using the University of Tennessee’s Best Practices for Developing and Delivering Online Instruction as guidelines, I evaluated both my experience and the course design. I chose this course to critique for two very specific reasons: I enjoy teaching writing, and I want to teach online courses. My goal is to do both effectively.  Completing this course critique allowed me the opportunity to observe, participate, and reflect on effective (or ineffective) course design.
Rationale
I chose the the topic of college composition because I was able to be involved with two things I am passionate about - composition and online teaching. I used my existing knowledge of writing and teaching strategies and my newly developed knowledge of online instruction as a basis for the critique. It was helpful for me, as a designer, to see the course through the eyes of the learner and added value to my reflection.
Alignment to Career Goals and Professional Standards
This critique aligns perfectly with my future career goals. As a writing instructor of five years and as someone with an interest in online teaching and learning, this project gave me a chance to examine how both my interests can function together. I was also able to apply the knowledge I have gained in the program to determine the strengths and weakness in the online course I critiqued.

Description
For the project Online Assessment Critique: A Study in Workforce Training, I chose to critique the design of online workforce training assessment activities in preparation for designing my own assessment plans. I chose to assess Introduction to Chemical Manufacturing because, over the course of the IT program, I developed an interest in workforce training and professional development. During this project, I had the chance to analyze and reflect on effective and ineffective assessment practices in an asynchronous setting.

Rationale
I chose to critique this subject because I had very little experience with workforce training when I started this program. I included it as a work sample because I feel I demonstrate how much I learned. This critique gave me the chance to apply my knowledge of pedagogy, adult learning theory, and online learning environments in a real world context.

Alignment to Career Goals and Professional Standards
Not only do I demonstrate the knowledge I have gained in the field of instructional design, but I also demonstrate my ability to apply that knowledge. As a professional in the field, I will be expected be knowledgable and to know how to apply that knowledge to support client needs.
